Persian Food

Check out this delicious Persian food we had at an office party tonight.  Some of us made the mistake of starving all day so we could eat more at dinner.  This totally backfired because our stomachs shrunk and couldn't accommodate very much.  Rookie mistake.

Green Thoughts

This is a very cool recycled wood card I bought from Borders for 50% off.  A little difficult to write on (wouldn't recommend it for calligraphy), but very green.  I have never been great at recycling things.  But living in Seattle, I am gently prodded (by peer pressure and my tree-hugging husband) to recycle.  It's really not all that difficult once you get used to it.  In a weird way, recycling seems good for the soul.  First, it makes me slow down.  I have to think twice before tossing that aluminum can into the trash.  And it gives me a chance to think and breathe, instead of mindlessly running from place to place.  My thought for the day.

Messy Desk

Here's my desk after a long night of writing.  My snacks of choice are gummy bears and jelly bellies.  BTW, that bottled water isn't for drinking.  It's for thinning out the ink when it doesn't flow.

Unbelievable Cloud Formations!

The cloud formations here in Seattle are unreal.  The clouds to the left look like thick, gray insulation.  Meanwhile, there's a piece of blue heaven just to the right.

Custom Frame Mats (with cute kids inside)

Check out my friend's adorable kids!  She gave me their photos so I could show off these photo mats on etsy.  I hand lettered them with black and white ink, but I think the kids steal the show here.  Don't they look like stock modeling photos or something?

Opera Detour

I'm taking a break from calligraphy to post about my other hobby, opera.  Some of my favorite singers will be in this production of Le Comte Ory at the Met.  This is one of the few operas where I haven't a clue about the plot, but it looks fun, doesn't it?  You can even see it live on Saturday April 9th at a movie theatre near you.  http://www.metoperafamily.org/metopera/broadcast/on_air.aspx
Ok, I have no clue why that didn't end up a hyperlink, but you can always google it.

Diagonally speaking

It seems that writing on a diagonal is quite popular, but I find it pretty difficult.  I inevitably run into the spot where you put the stamp.

I can't spell!

Seriously, I used to be a good speller.  It's funny, but the more I work on my calligraphy and lettering, the worse my spelling gets.  It's a common problem among calligraphers, along with terrible everyday handwriting.  My theory is that I'm so tired after writing with a steel nib all day that my hand just quits when I'm at the grocery store check out.  My signature has been reduced to one big "G".

Rainbow Name Tags

Here's a recent job for a client.  In case you were wondering, the oval things are name tags.

New Use for an Old Thing

I finally found a use for the turtle chopstick holders I got as a wedding gift.  We never actually use them to hold our chopsticks.  But they're great as pen and brush holders.  Hooray!
